What are your top three secrets to success?

Honesty is paramount in building trust with clients. Integrity. Always be aware of clients’ needs. Money follows from a job well done. Efficiency. Keep in constant contact with clients by responding to emails and enquiries as soon as possible, and deliver what was promised.

What is the one thing you wish someone had taught you or told you when you first started out in property and why?

I was fortunate in having a very efficient, highly experienced and amazing mentor. I shadowed her for a year and she taught me everything I know. She proved to be a master negotiator and incredibly thorough.

What is the most vital business tool that estate agents should have at their disposal in today’s market and why?

A tailor-made marketing presentation, a visual toolbox that should be with you at all times. You never know when you might be called into an unexpected listing appointment.

Clearly I didn’t get to sell that house – but my first sale was a R2.5-million luxury apartment in Fish Hoek.

What advice would you give to new kids on the block on making a success of their career in property?

Property is a rather intimidating industry, so do all the basics such as door knocking and telephone canvassing, and learn how the industry works. Find a mentor who is prepared to take you to valuations, show houses and viewing appointments. And visualise your success every day.
