Wakefields Real Estate, Gateway

What are your top three secrets to success?

Passion, perseverance, and being there and available when the client calls.

What is the one thing you wish someone had taught you or told you when you first started out in property and why?

Networking is something I wished I knew more about from the start, as it is such an important element of our business.

What is the most vital business tool that estate agents should have at their disposal in today’s market and why?

Smart phone, iPad/laptop. The business needs a mobile office, so stock details, buyer and seller data bases and access to many property websites are of utmost importance.

Do you remember the first property you sold? Please tell us about it.

It was a duplex apartment in the gateway area – a sole mandate – and I sold it for the full asking price – this sale was a welcome relief as I was brand new to the industry, and in between, was squeezing in training, exams and get a hold on the ins and outs of the industry. I believe I did a good job as these buyers have referred me to many other clients and have become good friends – trust established between us fostered a strong foundation of friendship.

What advice would you give to new kids on the block about making a success in their career in property?

It’s not part time, it’s full time and you have to have passion, perseverance and be prepared for many ups and downs. To be successful, you have to be available almost 24/7 and you need to invest in your business – learn as much as you can, because knowledge is power! Half the battle is won by working with a well- known established real estate company and brand. Know your area and know your stock, and focus on the effort, not the reward.
