One of the biggest frustrations agents have with the PPRA (apart from education) has been the backlog of issuing Fidelity Fund Certificates (FFCs). It appears that the PPRA is now attempting to resolve this issue, with the appointment of Attorney and Conveyancer, Johlene Wasserman as Executive for Licensing and Registration, placing her in charge of issuing all new FFCs, renewals, and exemptions.
Who is Johlene Wasserman?
Wasserman is a qualified attorney and conveyancer, as well as an accredited mediator. She completed her bachelor’s degree (LLB) at Northwest University and her LLM degree in Commercial Law: Dispute Resolution at UCT. She shares that, “I have a passion for governance, compliance, and training which I focused on at the Community Scheme Ombud Service (CSOS), where I’ve worked as Senior Manager, Governance, Compliance & Enforcement for the past 8 years, before now joining the PPRA”.
Seeking to make a difference in the property industry, Wasserman believes in “Empowering stakeholders through training, education, and awareness however most important is enabling the property industry to provide a service to their clients by providing them with their FFC on time as per our legislative mandate!”
A starting point
According to Wasserman, her immediate task is to tackle issues with the SAP system and website portal. An urgent meeting will be held on Friday, 14 April with the system developers of both the PPRA SAP system and website portal, to minimize the downtime being experienced, ensure that the correct FFCs are issued, clear the backlog on all outstanding FFCs, and upgrade the system to include all 12 categories of property practitioners. “The timeline will depend on how swiftly the developers can develop the system; however, we aim to get this done by this quarter”, she shares.
“The backlog in terms of FFCs and other related issues has caused serious disruptions for hundreds of agents who couldn’t practice due to the lack of a correct FFC. We congratulate Johlene on her appointment and wish her the very best when it comes to clearing this up. It’s certainly not an easy task but would do much to restore the industry’s faith in the PPRA,” shares Jan le Roux, CE of Rebosa.
