On Thursday, 2 November, BetterHome Group hosted a gala event at the Marriott Hotel Melrose Arch. The evening, which was attended by dignitaries, industry partners and staff, was held to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BetterHome Group and to acknowledge the exceptional individuals and businesses that have made the Group what it is today.

Most importantly, however, the event was an opportunity to pay special tribute to Jan le Roux, who has played a pivotal role in shaping the residential real estate industry over the past 40 years. Jan co-founded the Property Association in 1983 and launched the PA Group in 1993, which merged with BetterBond in 2003. This laid the foundation for what is now BetterHome Group.

“Jan has played a huge role in the history and success of our business, and it was an incredible privilege to honour him for his role in making our Group what it is today,” said BetterHome Group CEO Rudi Botha. “But more than that, we wanted to recognise him for what he has done and continues to do for the real estate industry. Jan founded the Property Association to give a voice to smaller agencies and to create a more level playing field in which they could flourish. And he has continued to do that throughout his remarkable four-decade career. Jan has also been a relentless campaigner for meaningful transformation in our industry, which he remains passionate about to this day,” added Botha.

At the event, le Roux’s many achievements were recognised by Chairman of the BetterHome Group Board, Advocate Bulelani Ngcuka, the Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Mmamoloko Kubayi, Chairperson of the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority, Dr Steven Ngubeni, and Chairman of REBOSA, Mr Tony Clarke, who all spoke on his behalf.

He was also honoured by former colleagues and industry leaders, including Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, Chairperson of the National Property Practitioners Council, Berry Everrit, CEO Chas Everitt International Property Group, Dr Andrew Golding, Chief Executive Pam Golding Property Group, Adrian Goslett, Regional Owner, Regional Director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, Richard Gray, CEO of Harcourts South Africa, Herschel Jawitz, CEO of Jawitz Properties, and Samuel Seeff, Chairman Seeff Property Services.

They highlighted, amongst many other things, his remarkable leadership qualities, his determination to move the industry forward, his unwavering commitment to transformation, and his ability to unite industry stakeholders for the common good.

“The event was an incredible opportunity to look back at a memorable and extraordinary 40-year journey that began with Jan le Roux and has continued with our valued partners and our people. We look forward to what the next four decades hold for BetterHome Group as we continue to wake up each morning committed to the beautiful purpose of inspiring home dreams and helping more South Africans to become homeowners by investing in and partnering with people and businesses that specialise in the home journey,” concluded Botha.
