Thato Ramaili, Founder and Director of Loara Realty and a serving board member of the PPRA has been appointed as the new, Acting CEO of the PPRA.
2022 – A year with several shake ups for the PPRA
Twenty-twenty-two was a turbulent year for the PPRA with the contested disciplinary process of then CEO, Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi. Mohlala was initially suspended following preliminary findings of a forensic investigation into her involvement in irregular activities as CEO of the PPRA. She faced seven charges which included, but not limited to, irregular appointments, irregular payments, contravention of the Pension Fund legislation and financial misconduct relating to the appointment of a catering company.
Towards the end of last year Mohlala was still contesting her suspension but was ultimately fired by the Board in December.
During this time, Deli Nkambule stepped into the role of Acting CEO. “Ms Nkambule took the reins at the PPRA at a very tumultuous time and did an admirable job of steering the Association. Rebosa would like to extend its appreciation, as well as that of its members, for the work she did while at the helm”, shares Jan le Roux, Chief Executive of Rebosa, “She immediately changed the atmosphere from confrontation to consultation and co-operation. We look forward to continuing this constructive partnership with Ms Ramaili”.
Who is Thato Ramaili?
Ramaili has a financial background, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from The Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy, San Diego State University, USA. She lived in America for almost a decade and a half, where she practiced in public accounting, financial services, government contracting and Law before relocating back to South Africa in March 2014 to head up a finance start-up team that would build the first Iveco Plant in Southern Africa, located and fully operational in Rosslyn Pretoria.
Ramaili realised her passion for real estate and found her feet as a property consultant at Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Realty in Midrand for three years before opening her own agency, Loara Realty. She is a serving board member of the PPRA.
According to a statement released by the PPRA, when the Chairperson, Mr Steven Ngubeni, on behalf of The Board introduced Ms. Ramaili to the staff, he emphasized that their choice of Ms. Ramaili was informed by her passion and experience in the real estate sector and her understanding of the challenges facing both the industry and the PPRA as the Regulator. He further mentioned that her installation will bring about new ideas and assist in fast tracking the transformation of the PPRA into an effective and efficient organisation.
In her address to staff members upon assuming office on 1 February 2023, she stated that “this day is symbolic as it marks the one-year anniversary the Property Practitioners Act was promulgated and that the PPRA needed diligent and meticulous staff members who constantly strive for perfection and will enable the organisation to be a world class regulator. An organisation that is committed to deliver efficient and effective service to our stakeholders.”
