Missed out on the NAR seminar? Watch it here

In response to requests from agents around the country, we bring you the full NAR seminar with speeches from key industry role players such as PPRA Chairperson, Steven Ngubeni, as well as keynote speaker, Kenny Parcell, President of the NAR (National Association of Realtors), America’s largest trade association.

Two seminars were hosted, one in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town on the 17th and the 20th of February. While the free events were at capacity, many more agents could not attend in person. For those who missed out or would like to hear some of the talks and panel discussions again, Rebosa has provided the Property Professional with the full recording of the Johannesburg event.

A guide through the seminar:

The opening address by Steven Ngubeni, at time code 00:08:07. The Property Professional recently published an article regarding Ngubeni’s comments about the June deadline for the registration of candidate practitioners which can be read here. The article critically provides information about the Accelerated RPL programme with Charter Academy. For those who missed out on Rebosa’s discounted offer which expired on the 24th of February there is good news! Rebosa has announced the launch of a second programme, at a preferential rate of R3,700, the offer being valid until Friday, the 24th of March.

Property Market Insights by Stefan Potgieter, Executive: Asset Ownership at Nedbank, at time code 00:44:53. Potgieter shares Nedbank’s research and predictions on the macro economy, loadshedding and more, before delving into some interesting statistics on home buying such as,

“More than 50% of daily transactions are done by first time home buyers, of which 70% are single buyers”.

“Women own more than 50% of all properties in South Africa. By the end of 2022, women accounted for 57% of all transactions in the market, which represent 54% of all properties registered at the Deeds Office”.

Potgieter also delves into Nedbank’s strategy for owning market share which includes several mentions of incentives for agents.

The keynote address by Kenny Parcell at time code 01:01:28. Parcell shares how he entered the property business (teaser – it’s a good story) and his deep belief in real estate as a vehicle to growing wealth. He also shares his number one rule “If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody will believe in you”. Having sold 32 000 homes during his career, he shares his tips for being successful.

Proptech Trends in 2023 and beyond by Alina Aeby, NAR Global Coordinator for Eastern Europe/Middle East/Africa at time code: 01:15:57.  Aeby explains that Proptech is already here, though she acknowledges that the real estate industry seems to be one of the last adopters of technologies like AI. That said, her vision of the future includes tech being used in anything form electronic deed certificates to AR open houses.

Q&A at time code 01:40:38. Agents were given time to ask their questions of the NAR delegates which ranged from ‘how long it takes to qualify as a realtor in America?’, ‘how to respond to a seller wanting to know what is happening with the property market?’, ‘can a qualified South African estate agent work in the US as a realtor?’ and more. Perhaps even a question you would have liked answered?
